ST. COLM’S HIGH SCHOOL

Policy Statement on Drug/Solvent Abuse

In St. Colm’s issues such as drug/solvent abuse are dealt with through and as an integral part of our Personal Development programme.  This structured programme carries through from Year 8 – 14 and is monitored by the Vice Principal and Personal Development (Tutorials) Co-ordinator in conjunction with the wider Pastoral Team.

The focus is on prevention and recognises that young people in today’s society are exposed to the risks associated with the drug culture which exists.  The misuse of drugs endangers not only our pupils but also affects the wider community in which we live.  The school has a prime responsibility to put in place procedures to ensure the child’s health and safety whilst in our care and to promote their personal and social well-being.  These procedures aim to support pupils exposed to misuse of drugs and clarify the stepped disciplinary measures to be taken if and when such an event takes place.

Details of the Policy and Procedures are made available to parents through our CD Rom or directly from the school.
