Belfast City Council Funding - Social Care Courses Commencing May 2020


Full funding* available for Belfast City Council residents! Level 3 & 5 Health & Social Care Courses Commencing May 2020

People 1st have appointed by Belfast City Council to facilitate a Social Care Upskilling Academy.

The aim of the academy is to support Belfast residents* working in the Social Care industry, to develop skills and achieve a qualification that will enable them to access better employment opportunities. Participants will work towards the Level 3 or Level 5 Diploma in Health and Social Care, which will enable them to access an identified supervisory, team leader or management role within the sector. This will then create an escalator with back-fill Social Care job opportunities for those wishing to enter the labour market. It is intended that this skills escalator will enable employers to have access to the higher-level skills and succession planning to sustain and grow their business. Eligibility/Requirements

  • Participants must be a resident in the Belfast City Council area.

  • Participants must be working in a Social Care role.

  • Those undertaking Level 3 must have the ability and opportunity to undertake senior/team leading duties under the director of Manager.

  • Level 5 participants must be in a Manager or Deputy Manager position, or be support by their employer to undertake activities which meet the requirements of the standards at the required level.

  • There must be evidence that employer commitment has been secured and progression opportunities are available.

  • Participants will be screened prior to acceptance to determine their eligibility, suitability and willingness/ability to work in the positions available.

  • Academy places will be offered to those who successfully complete the selection process, which includes having access to enhanced employment opportunities on the basis that they complete the Social Care Upskilling Academy.

  • Participants must be available to commence the programme May 2020

Facilitation Model Participants are required to attend master classes which will focus on best practice in the sector, these will be facilitated via a blended approach of distance and group sessions learning held fortnightly for level 3 and monthly for level 5. Participants must have basic IT skills and appropriate resources to access on-line learning. Assessment You will be assigned an Assessor who will assist you in choosing the right units for the role you undertake. You will be required to complete some written work in relation to the units you choose and in addition, workplace assessment is undertaken to provide evidence of your application of skills and knowledge. Why People 1st? People 1st hold Direct Claims Status (DCS) for all qualifications and do not need to wait for an external verifier visit to claim certificates. This means that as soon as you complete your programme, you should have your certificate within two weeks! For an application form or further information please email bookings@people-1st.co.uk.
