SPIM Opening
The staff and pupils of St Colm’s High School were delighted to welcome the Children’s Commissioner for Northern Ireland, Chris Quinn, along with Danny Baker MLA, Kelly Eades (EA), Colleen McCarthy (EA), and a number of parents, to the official opening of the first of our Specialist Provision in Mainstream Classes. In his address, Principal Mr Walsh highlighted the importance of inclusion and embracing diversity within schools, noting how the introduction of the class has enriched the wider school community. Mr Quinn supported these views, emphasising that schools should be safe and secure environments where all children can fully access the curriculum without concerns about their basic needs, such as their next meal. The school was also pleased to welcome Marian the donkey from Learning in Harmony with Donkeys, an organisation that provides equine-facilitated learning sessions, in which our pupils have participated. The event was a great success, and Mr Walsh paid tribute to Learning Support Teacher, Mrs Grace McCallion, for her outstanding work both in the classroom and in organising the morning.
